Tell us about yourself
I am De'Voe Sherman, a graduate of Woodward High School class of 2012 from Cincinnati, Ohio. I studied Political Science/ Liberal Arts at the University of Cincinnati. I was born and raised in Cincinnati and now want to give back to the city and work towards creating a plan for everyone to live in harmony. My involvement in the church has helped me become a better person with better character. I am driven to implement programs for students who need guidance, which stems from my time in high school. While attending Woodward High, I started thinking about how to help students graduate on time and begin their future careers consistently. I am known as The Business Plan Dude and am one of Cincinnati's Premier Millennial Entrepreneurs and a true "Poverty to Success" story. I have built my career in a variety of roles and industries, mostly in small companies where I am the gatekeeper, business consultant, blogger, and community organizer. In my 29 years of life, I have experienced many heartbreaks and joys and have learned what it takes to hustle through tumultuous storms. I am a thriving businessman who believes in elevating success and making a positive impact in the community. Freedom and passion, not money, are my main motivations.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
2022 was a great year for SCF! We brought in a record number of new clients and had record profitability. I think our single biggest business accomplishment in 2022 was the focus. Our team was focused on the most important things for success, and we defined what success looks like in advance. That up-front definition of success is important because it helps you recognize when it happens. It sounds overly simplistic, but taking the time to define the goal clearly is a very important first step. When you add measuring and sharing the progress on a consistent basis, it makes winning easier.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things you'll have to face as a business owner is dealing with the unknown. Every day there will be new challenges and obstacles to deal with. business is never predictable, no matter how prepared you are. The truth is you'll never be 100% ready, but you can be close to it if you're able to get into the right mind frame to tackle challenges and find solutions. One of the best ways to navigate through the unknowns is to put a routine in place that helps you get into the right mindset each and every day. Whether it's an early morning trip to the gym, a walk, or a yoga session before work, taking the time to get focused and ready to crush those obstacles can really make all the difference in your success.
