What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a digital content strategist and freelance writer. I work with solopreneurs, startups, and established companies on a variety of content marketing and writing projects. Much of my work is in the beauty, design, e-comm, entertainment, lifestyle, media, and performing arts spaces.
Tell us about yourself
I've always had a penchant for writing and marketing, so communications were the perfect major for me. After graduating during a recession, jobs in my field were few and far between. I had to create a space for myself and started freelancing. I tapped into all my skill sets to help brands with blogging, social media, public relations, and content writing. That evolved into becoming a digital content strategist. I'm a creator at heart. Finding new ways for a brand to connect with its audiences and build a community always inspires me.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
One of my first major projects was a holiday campaign for an e-comm company. Seeing how a new strategy I implemented resulted in press placements and international sales during the holiday season was rewarding.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Convincing clients to try something different can be a challenge. You have to keep in mind not everyone is open to new ideas. It's your job to reassure them.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Never stop learning. There's always a new tool, app, or skill to dive into.
- Build a network outside of people in your location. Think digital. It's called "social networking" for a reason. Find your tribe.
- Share your journey. Being transparent about the process, challenges, and victories helps you to connect and inspire others. You never know who's watching.
