Looking Good Is Feeling Good - Shape Your Destiny

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Destiny Owen, Founder & CEO of Shape Your Destiny, LLC, located in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own two separate businesses. Shape your Destiny, LLC is a combination of a physical private studio offering group/private training sessions, exercise/physical therapy, nutritional meal plans/coaching, GI Map tests and readings, yoga, bodybuilding, general strengthening, weight loss, weight gain, and flexibility coaching. We also have an after-school program contracted with neighboring school districts to prove health and mindfulness to children.

Camp Shape is a nonprofit organization that occurs doing summer. We are a 6-week residential health and wellness program for children ages 10-19. My goal for both businesses is to help others reach their highest health potential.

Tell us about yourself

I began in nursing school but did not enjoy it due to my empathic nature, so I received my license in the pharmaceutical industry instead in 2005. During this time, I was also diagnosed with a severe back problem that a major surgery did not fix. I had a doctor that told me to try and strengthen my core. With my basic knowledge of anatomy, I tried. And to my disbelief, it actually worked. Because of this, I ran a marathon two years later and never looked back. I decided I would spend the rest of my life getting as much education as possible to help others and also receive the kind of miracle that I was so grateful to experience.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is how many lives I've been able to change from the inside, and I know it will trickle down to future generations. Watching someone grow confident, whether it's a client or a staff member, feeds my inner light. Knowing that I have made a positive impact in this world is all I've ever wanted.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The most uncomfortable thing I have encountered as a business owner is growth. Even good change can be difficult. Learning how to delegate and being adaptable are key components to running a successful enterprise.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you are looking to start a business, you must know it has to be a decision set in stone. There can be no B or C plan. You must give it all you can in order to succeed.
  2. If you are currently running a business, my biggest piece of advice is to never forget to take care of yourself first. Wake up every day constantly, striving to be the best version of yourself.
  3. If you are looking to grow your business, I believe you have to truly find your niche, the one that brings you the most joy. If you are not doing what makes you happy or brings passion, the business will almost always fail. Then you must make systems duplicatable.
