Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kellie Kitson, a teacher at Shala Ashtanga Yoga Centre, located in Edmonton, AB, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a small inclusive, community-based yoga studio that teaches in the Ashtanga lineage. We work individually and collaboratively with all our students towards a healthy relationship with themselves spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, and physically. Our practitioner is anyone wanting to dedicate time to understanding themselves through a yoga practice.
Tell us about yourself
We opened our studio simply for the love and belief of the Ashtanga practice. Our students inspire and motivate us daily as we see their connection, belief, and understanding with themselves and their lives deepen.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Giving our students a safe and supportive space to have a voice. With time develop relationships that allow for their individual inquiry.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The challenge that comes with a business that is individually focused and has a niche market is sustainability as operating costs continue to increase, keeping our prices low to allow everyone the opportunity to practice yoga in a safe, supportive space.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Authenticity & passion. Always reflect on why you started your business.
- Build and cultivate a connection with your customers. Celebrate even the little accomplishment because there will be many more challenges.
- Embrace and adapt to change but always keep in line with why.
