Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in pet care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Camille Lina, owner of Shake It Off Dog Training, located in Yountville, CA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Shake It Off Dog Training offers private dog training for dogs and humans of all ages. We provide Day Training (just trainer and dog) for busy humans on a tight schedule and Coaching (trainer, owner, and dog) for dog owners who want to participate in the learning process and build a strong bond with their dog.

Tell us about yourself

I got interested in training while working in a completely different industry. I was volunteering with an animal rescue as a board member, animal foster, and adoption coordinator, and I was trying to figure out how I could desire to be of service to the world with my profession. I love constantly learning, and that is necessary to be a great trainer. Working with dog owners who trust the process and are willing to make a commitment to their dog's wellbeing makes me happy. And the look of amazement and happiness when owners develop a method of communicating with their dog and see how smart their dog actually is - is priceless.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Oh, this is a tough one. I had no experience whatsoever with being a small business before. The learning curve is steep! I am just proud that I made it this far.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing for me as a new business owner is making time for self-care and having boundaries. I am always thinking about the list of things I need or want to work on, from intake forms to my website and new offerings for clients.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

1. Find a mentor.

2. Meet other people locally who are in the business that are willing to share ideas and help you succeed.

3. Don't neglect self-care. Have boundaries. When is a reasonable time to stop working at night? How much do you work on your days off?
