Seven Counseling & Wellness - Krystal Thornton

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Krystal Thornton, Owner of Seven Counseling & Wellness, LLC., located in Dallas, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a private practice owner that provides mental health counseling and coaching services. I am also a self-published author of the Goal DigH.E.R. 30 Days of Wellness Journal, which is available on Amazon. I specialize in working with women and young adults who suffers from anxiety, depression, stress management, trauma healing, and life transitions.

Tell us about yourself

I was inspired by my former supervisor to operate and run my own business during Covid. As an educator of 12 years, the demands increased, and I was working more hours than what I was being paid for. I was burnt out and assigned many tasks that had nothing to do with my assigned work tasks. Fast forward, I decided to make 2021 my last year working for a company. During that time, I continued to work full time but worked on my business every day until I was able to financially transition with a full caseload. Since my resignation, it has been the best decision I've ever made for myself, and I am inspired each and every day to get up and build a legacy for me and my family that I am proud of.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My business accomplishment is going from a part-time caseload to a full-time caseload within one week and tripling my monthly salary.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the most challenging things as a business owner is being responsible for day-to-day tasks and managing a solo practice. I am the business owner, administrative assistant, bookkeeper, and all the above. Although I have learned to outsource these tasks, the beginning stages of keeping up with records and requests can be overwhelming if you are not organized. However, this is my strength, but I do recommend others who are not organized to hire help. It makes it easier.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't quit your full-time job until you are financially able to run your business without your full-time job.
  2. Hire help and delegate tasks.
  3. Secure mentorship and coaching.
