Select Service Catering is a full-service catering business that specializes in corporate catering and unique events.
Tell us about yourself
Select Service Catering was founded by Jon Hall and Colin McGinn after Jon worked in the catering industry and found an area of improvement in the industry. Both partners were raised by entrepreneurial mothers who taught them various aspects of the business. Jon has 15 years in the food and beverage industry while also running a charity. Colin has worked in a variety of IT fields and owned other small businesses. Both are motivated by the idea that they can have a direct impact on the quality of service.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Our biggest accomplishment as business owners is obtaining the freedom to live life on our own terms, which allows us to express our creativity in finding solutions to customer needs.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Focus. While business as a whole comes in multiple directions, it can be difficult to prioritize and maintain direction in such a dynamic industry.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Know your numbers, see what will work and what won't, but don't be afraid to take some risks.
- Expect change, and be willing to adapt.
- Start small, scale as business scales.
