Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture - SEEAG
Interested in starting your own journey in education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mary Maranville, Founder and CEO of Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture, located in Los Alamos, CA, USA.
What's your organization, and who are your members?
SEEAG is a 501c3 whose mission is to educate students and the greater community about the farm origins of our food and agriculture's contribution to our nutritional well-being. Our students are 3 - 12th grade and the general public.
Tell us about yourself
I started the program in 2008. My motivation is deeply rooted in helping to preserve heritage family farmland.
What's your biggest accomplishment as an organization?
Our biggest accomplishment is having educated over 100,000 students about food literacy and agriculture since 2008. Many of these same students write us letters and cards telling us how much they loved the program.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being an organization?
Keeping your employees feel appreciated, motivated, and working hard every day. You cannot make people passionate. It has to come from within.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow an organization today?
If you look at the big picture of starting a business or an organization, most people look at the end result, and it can seem very daunting. You don't need to go from a to z overnight. If you put a plan in place and chip away at that plan every day, before you know it, you have something substantial. Even a few hours a day can make a big difference.
