The Scrumptious Difference - Scrumptious by Hira

What's your business, and who are your customers?
Hi! I run a small boutique bakery specializing in fully customizable cakes and dessert tables. My clients come in with a vision, and we make those visions come to life. Sweets are the medium we have chosen to tell our client's stories. I love most about my business because of the relationships that I build with my clientele over time through the various celebrations within their lives. Soon enough, we all feel like a family! I feel honored and humbled every time my business is chosen to be a part of such special moments in my clienteles' lives. We pour our hearts and souls into the work that we do. At the end of the day, it's more than just cake.
Tell us about yourself
I've always been a creative person but didn't have a creative outlet until I found the art of cake decorating. Once I discovered this talent of mine, there was no looking back. I started baking at home and making cakes once in a while to open a storefront and do this full time. Motivation comes from the fact that I created this little life of mine from nothing. I am happy to have all that I have achieved so far and excited to see the things that continue to flow my way.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I'm not sure if I can pinpoint one thing as my "biggest accomplishment." I have learned over the years that as a business owner, the work is never done; when you think you've reached the top of one mountain, you get there and realize how much more of a way there is to go. It's definitely a personal journey. I rest as much as I need to do at those "mountain tops" and then continue my way up to the next. Learning this skill of having the courage to keep taking a step forward in what I would consider being my biggest accomplishment.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about being a business owner is knowing when to keep going, when to take a step back and rest and when to quit and let go. If you let yourself be led by fear, the results will be disastrous, but the results will be miraculous if you let yourself be guided by courage.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- The journey is yours and yours alone. There's no need to compare and let outside noise affect your self-worth.
- Just start, take the first step; the only way you'll see the path is if you take the first step. This wouldn't be a journey if we had it all figured out before starting.
- Do your best. Your "best" won't look the same every day, nor will it necessarily look better than each passing day. But get out there each day and show up.
