Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jordi Ber, Co-Founder and CEO of Scoolinary, located in Palma, Mallorca, Spain.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Scoolinary is an online school for gastronomy. We search for the best chefs and experts in the culinary world – many of whom have Michelin stars to their names, among other accolades and awards. We collaborate with them to produce high-quality video courses with a practical approach. With a goal to reach a wider global audience, Scoolinary offers a selection of courses with subtitles in five different languages and recipes in as many as three languages. These courses are offered individually at accessible prices or as part of a membership that grants the member access to all of our courses. Our courses are online and on demand. They allow you to learn at your own pace from wherever you are and whenever you want. Our customers are both professional chefs and amateur cooks/foodies.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a serial entrepreneur. Scoolinary is the third online business I've co-founded. I'm married, have two kids, and live in Mallorca. In my previous venture, we discovered that there are huge industries like hospitality, employing millions of deskless workers, that are being underserved in the digital space. Scoolinary wants to democratize access to the best hospitality and catering training. We want to increase accessibility to the best professionals in the sector at the most affordable prices possible to help any professional in the sector to develop themselves and also grow their business.

We're a purpose-based business. Our purpose is to transform people and connect cultures through gastronomy. This purpose is what motivates me. I see Scoolinary as our attempt to make this world a better place.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

When I look back, I'm proud of having helped people achieve their needs or goals, either because they were our customers and found in our product or service something that helped them or because they were part of the team and we provided them with a professional career and personal transformation.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

It's a very lonely job. And it's a long journey, too. So, for me, this has meant finding other co-founders to make the journey together.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do something that matters. Always align what you do with your beliefs and values.
  2. Enjoy the journey. This is what matters, not the destination.
  3. Always be learning and adapting.
