Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Bailey Christine, Owner of Saturn's Daughter Apothecary, located in Denver, CO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Saturn's Daughter is both an Herbal Apothecary as well as a healing community. We welcome clients & community members of all ages and needs and offer services ranging from Clinical Herbal Medicine treatment to Botanical skincare, all while cultivating an affirming space for our community members to thrive.
We represent a dedication to intuitive, educated decision-making when it comes to wellness. Herbalism teaches us that the body has an innate ability to return to balance, and working with herbal allies helps us tune in to this process. We work for and alongside our community to hold space for knowledge and empowerment.
Tell us about yourself
I was brought into the world of Herbal Medicine nearly a decade ago, at the beginning of 2014, when I was seeking treatment for my mental health. After working with trained Herbalists to find solutions - and seeing significant improvement - I immediately enrolled in a training program and have since continued my education both in Clinical Herbalism and Medical Aesthetics so that I can create effective internal and topical medicines. I am continuously inspired by the clients I've helped and the results I've seen firsthand.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The mission behind Saturn's Daughter is to foster a community of healing, and achieving that goal has been the most fulfilling part of our journey. Educating our clients in Herbal Medicine and empowering them to make intuitive healthcare decisions, all while welcoming them into a community that affirms and supports them, is as much a gift as it is an accomplishment.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest part of owning a business is unlearning ways that competition and imposter syndrome impact our thinking. There is enough success and support to go around, and building bridges is much more impactful than burning them. While marketing, budgeting, growth strategy, and management all play a huge role in the longevity of a business, we fight the biggest battles in our minds.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start. Start now, and follow your passion. It doesn't have to be perfect or compare to anyone or anything else - you deserve the time and space to try, learn, fail, and retry. But if you wait for everything to be perfect, you will never move forward.
- Don't hop on every trend or offer everything other businesses in your niche offer. Wait to find out what will work for you and put your all into it.
- Remember the value that you bring to your client base and make all decisions from there. Your business is valuable because YOU make it that way!
