Non-heated Studio for Mindful Movement - Sati Yoga & Wellness
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Kali Arnold, Owner of Sati Yoga & Wellness, located in Atlanta, GA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Sati Yoga & Wellness is Atlanta's home for non-heated mindful movement. We believe all bodies are yoga bodies. We provide a welcoming space for people of all abilities and backgrounds to rest, restore, and rejuvenate.
Tell us about yourself
I am a former orthopedic surgeon with over 17 years of yoga experience. I discovered yoga during my very difficult surgical residency, and it literally saved me from spiraling into a deep depression. Yoga has since been an integral part of my life, and I am passionate about sharing its amazing benefits with as many people as I can. I am certified in yoga, Pilates, Reiki, and I hold a Master's in Ayurvedic and IM. I use my skills as a yoga teacher in combo with my extensive medical background to help clients achieve their best lives through health and wellness.
I have been practicing yoga for 17 years, 12 of those years in Atlanta. I was beginning to see a trend within the yoga studios that mostly involved heated, dynamic classes. I do love those types of classes, but I have many friends who would like to try yoga but feel like they have to "get in shape" before trying a class. I started to wonder where can my friends who are beginners, older, have bigger bodies, pregnant bodies, disabilities, or autoimmune disorders practice yoga. Sati Yoga & Wellness is a non-heated studio that provides trauma-informed, accessible yoga for everyBODY. We do have a few strength-based, but we specialize in restorative practices that calm the nervous system, such as yin, restorative, and Yoga Nidra. I believe everyone should have the ability to receive all the amazing benefits of yoga, and I'm passionate about helping as many people as I can through yoga and wellness.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment has been seeing my vision come to life. I wanted to create a space where people could not only practice yoga but make connections with like-minded individuals. It has been so inspiring to see this blossoming community of people from all walks of life forming lasting friendships through wellness.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
There are many days when I just feel exhausted from worrying about so many things and feeling like I have a forever-growing to-do list. I'm slowly learning to delegate tasks to my staff, but it's definitely something I'm still working on.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
I think it is important to have a clear vision of what you want your business to be. Ask how are you going to be helping the community? What makes you different from other businesses in your field? Secondly, you must be organized. Employ software systems for finances, payroll, tasks, etc., to get things done efficiently. Lastly, stay consistent. Be consistent with your work even when you're tired or just don't feel up to it. Also, make sure your services are consistent for your customers. People will return to your business when they like your product/service, and they get what they expect every time they come.
