A Home is Not a Place, It's a Feeling - Sarika Bali
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarika Bali, owner of Luxe Home Staging Inc., located in Vaughan, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a leading home staging company in Vaughan that services top agents and sellers across the greater Toronto area. We elevate the presentation of properties to create hot listings. Resulting in properties spending less time on the market and selling for the best price possible in any market.
Tell us about yourself
I began my journey into the real estate world in 2017. I wrote the first real estate exam and decided that it wasn't going to be fulfilling enough for me. While I loved the industry, the focus for me would have been mainly on finding the first seller/buyer. Not seeing results in the first year of business wasn't motivating enough for me. I needed more. I needed all aspects of myself to embrace this new career path. I came across staging through friends. Turns out, I was really good at it. I received many compliments, and the feedback from agents was always positive. Staging for me is where my background in marketing/psychology and passion for interior decorating converge. There is nothing more satisfying than preparing a home for sale from start to finish for me. We are constantly competing with our last staging project to stay ahead of our competitors. We measure our success not based on what we achieved BUT on what our clients (agents and sellers) walk away with after working with us.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
All 271 houses we did last year. That was a big number for us. I started out in my garage at home with a handful of items. Growing the business to a warehouse space and a team of talented stagers has been incredible to witness.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
All the hats you have to wear. Learning to let go of small responsibilities to focus on the big ones. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to how I want things to be done for my clients. Figuring out what that experience should look like and replicating it through training tools for my team was a game changer.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- It's never too late to start a business. I started mine at the worst possible time (coming out of maternity leave, leaving behind a secure bank job, and in my early thirties.)
- As a woman entrepreneur, you don't have to choose between career and family. You can have both without compromising.
- Invest in yourself every chance you get.
