Awesome for Charity - Sarah’s Au-some Treats

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarah White, owner of Sarah’s Au-some Treats, located in Almonte, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

It is a home bakery, baking cookies, cakes, and mini muffins. I donate half of the money to charities/organizations like the Shepherds of Good Hope and the Ottawa Food Bank. My best customers are Dylan Black from Boom FM radio and Christina Ranieri from Ability First.

Tell us about yourself

My biggest inspiration is my son. He has high-functioning Autism and has the biggest heart. I watched him one day as he bought ice cream for the neighborhood kids, and he ran up to me, smiling from ear to ear. He asked me, “was that kind?” He cares more about kindness than getting anything back in return. That’s the way I am as well, and I want to share that with the world!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Working with the Shepherds of Good Hope last year. I did a couple of fundraisers with them. I was helping them raise money for jackets, sheets, and boots for the winter.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think it’s just collaboration, finding the time to collaborate with different organizations after working with shepherds of good hope. I have a full-time job as well.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you have an idea for a business, don’t ever let anyone tell you it’s not good. People are always looking for different and unique ideas all the time.
  2. If you can’t afford the space and can do it/run your business from home.
  3. People are always looking for something different…so come up with ideas when.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I am also a COVID Screener, a Companion for seniors on weekends, and I recently appeared in front of Queens Park for pre-budget Consultations. I represented and tried to help people with disabilities and those on ODSP during the pandemic.
