Impressions Matter - Sarah Mehesy
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarah Mehesy, Founder & Owner of Impressions Matter, located in Elizabethtown, PA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is called Impressions Matter because, so often, people are worried about their first impression at networking events but forget what everyone does afterward. They look you up on LinkedIn. So I write people's personal and company profiles on LinkedIn to help people make a good first impression by helping them clearly communicate who they are, what they do, and why they love what they do. My primary clients are business owners and executives.
Tell us about yourself
My business started when I was working on improving my own LinkedIn profile and didn't know how to do so. I did a lot of research to learn how to have a good profile and saw others struggling with the same problem. So I started my business, Impressions Matter. What keeps me motivated every day is the desire to help people utilize LinkedIn to be able to build relationships and stay connected to their professional network.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I have been in business for almost a year now, and my biggest accomplishment, I would say, is the expertise I have built over the last year. I would never have seen myself where I am today. I am now regularly taking on new clients and speaking at different events.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
You don't know what you don't know. You need to do the work necessary to get started and then ask a lot of questions to those in your network to help you in your entrepreneurship journey. Talking to others in a similar field helped me choose what I should charge and many other things.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
My first tip would be just to get started. Don't get stuck in the planning stage. While planning is important, you need to execute the plan and move forward even if you don't feel entirely ready. Another tip would be to make sure you charge what you're worth. To do so, look at what others are charging, talk to people, and be confident in your price. My last tip would be to focus on building mutually beneficial relationships through networking.
