Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarah Lesgourgues, Owner of Thrive Method - Post Natal Strength Training, located in Charlotte, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Thrive Method: Post Natal Strength Training. I work with Mamas of all stages in their postnatal journey who want to gain strength, feel confident, and be in the best shape of their lives without worrying about their pelvic floor, aches, pains, or injuries.

Tell us about yourself

I've been in the fitness and health industry for 20 years, working with all walks of life, but once I had my twins, I realized there is a GAP in postpartum care where Mamas simply do not have the guidance of how to repair their ab separation, prioritize themselves and function as a new mom. Instead, they're left fatigued, in pain, experiencing prolapse & incontinence, and are expected to push through ALL of that and prioritize their family. It left me asking - what about the Mamas?! Even 5 years after, they are still struggling with the same pain that they felt post-birth because they were never taught how to engage their core and build strength for life deeply. My own journey back to having strength, confidence, and the ability to be a kick-ass Mom inspired me to help others do the same. I'm motivated by simply being a part of my client's transformation to thrive in their life and as a Mom.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been trusting the process over the years and bouncing back from each struggle it presented. I worked independently for gyms in LA, moved the business online when the pandemic hit, physically moved my family across the country, and restarted the in-person business once we landed in NC.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest things that come with being a business owner are:

  1. Realizing success is not linear so learn to hang on tight as you take one step forward and 3 steps back.
  2. Charging what you are worth, not what someone else can afford.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you are passionate about the business you're starting and dive into how what unique perspective can offer the world.
  2. Make a plan - what service/product do you offer? How much will you charge? Who are you targeting, and how?
  3. Be really good at what you do and tell everyone about it. Social media, referrals, friends, and family can provide a constant flow to grow your business.
