Building Your Dreams From the Inside Out - Sarah Eyden
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in music but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarah Eyden, Founder of Eyden Project for Musicians, located in Epsom, Surrey, UK.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business provides 1-2-1 coaching, group academy coaching, and digital courses for ambitious musicians who want more from their music careers.
Tell us about yourself
I am a session singer (I have sung on over 400 films at Abbey Road studios) and trained as a business coach during the pandemic as a 'side hustle.' It has turned into something far bigger and more fulfilling than I'd ever imagined! I am motivated to work at this business every day as my vision is to create business retreats and scholarship places for musicians who suffer from anxiety but, with the right support, could be so much more. I suffered from chronic anxiety and depression for most of my music career due to childhood sexual assault, so I totally understand why musicians sometimes feel hopeless or worthless with the ups and downs of being in the music industry. Knowing I am helping other musicians to learn the skills they need to thrive, alongside giving them that much-needed emotional support is my motivation.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment has been twofold. Firstly, offering a safe place for musicians to be themselves, warts, and all while learning invaluable business skills to advance their careers. And personally, building an online income of between 4-10K per month from a standing start in 2020.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about being a business owner is ignoring your upper limiting behaviour when you want to progress to the next level. By upper-limiting behaviour, I mean things like, procrastination, inconsistency, getting ill, and not taking care of yourself. These things can be success stealers if you allow them in!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Take everything a step at a time. Rome wasn't built in a day!
- Really think about what lights you up and create something around that rather than what you 'think' might sell.
- If you want to grow what you already have, make changes. If you want things to change, you have to change - Jim Rohn.
