What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is Sara Sela Jewelry, and I design and create handmade jewelry for nearly everyone. I have a nature-inspired design mixed with industrial chic and boho vibes.
Tell us about yourself
I've been in love with jewelry designing for the vast majority of my 37 years of life. I began selling at 13 and have grown every day since in my abilities as a designer and business owner. My passion for creating has motivated me every day, even while growing my family. I truly love making jewelry.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I have been lucky enough to have pieces worn on TV, my placement on This Is Us being my most treasured. Mandy Moore wore my earrings on Season 4 Episode 13, and the scene put a fabulous spotlight on my earrings! I have gifted pieces to celebrities and even to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever! The Artisan Group (the PR group that gave me these opportunities) has been a wonderful boon for my business.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Rejection! You will never satisfy everyone's taste, and THAT IS OKAY! It took me years to move on from rejection with a smile. You need to find the positives even within that "no." Hang on to that business relationship because something could always change in the future.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find your confidence, even when you don't feel very positive that day.
- Be open to constructive criticism. You never know what altering advice you may receive.
- Be flexible. Things change, and life changes. Make them work for you instead of giving in.
