Kolb Pediatric Occupational Therapy Consulting - Sara Kolb
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sara Kolb, Owner of Kolb Pediatric Occupational Therapy Consulting, LLC, located in Aurora, CO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I have a pediatric occupational therapy company in Colorado. My customers are children from birth to 3 years of age in the early intervention system. I also see preschoolers and elementary-aged children with developmental delays related to fine motor, visual motor, self-regulation, attention, and engagement. I provide occupational therapy services in the child's home, at a local clinic, and/or in the community.
Tell us about yourself
I originally set up my LLC in 2019 when I was thinking about my dream job of being a consultant. I had a number of children who were being kicked out of preschools and daycare centers due to self-regulation issues. I felt this was an area I could help with by observing and providing recommendations to the staff. Although I have not fully implemented this dream, I am now self-employed full-time and always finding new people to network with to make my business what I want it to be. I enjoy helping kids and their families. If I can help make their day a little bit easier, it is a win for them as well as for me!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment has been to begin working for myself full-time. I have had a full caseload ever since I started full-time in April 2022. In fact, I also have a waitlist due to the number of children who are needing occupational therapy services.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing I have found is balancing work and personal life. There is always something that could be done for my business, and there never seems to be enough time to get everything done. This is a work in progress, but it is better now than it was when I first started.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
For me, I took baby steps to where I am now. I slowly increased the number of hours I was working my business until I was ready to take the leap to be fully self-employed. I think networking is a big part of growing a business and finding others who you can collaborate with and share referrals with so you both benefit. Communication has been a big part of growing my business, as well as responding to calls and emails in a timely manner and apologizing for any delays as they do happen.
