Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sara Cully, Owner of Sara Cully Nutrition, located in Virginia Beach, VA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the owner of Sara Cully Nutrition. A virtual nutrition coaching practice led by evidence-based nutrition guidance, intuitive eating practices, and empowering female athletes of all levels to live a life of food and exercise freedom. My clients are women and men who are looking to end disordered eating and exercise habits, so they can continue to live a prosperous life that includes enjoying food and exercise that aligns with their own values and goals.

Tell us about yourself

I am a Registered Dietitian, Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, athlete, dog mom, and much more. I reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where I was born and raised. I struggled with disordered eating and exercise habits for over 10 years. Supporting women (athletes and non-athletes) who are committed to ridding themselves of all-consuming disordered eating habits and reject the diet mentality is what fuels my fire and my business.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is spreading a healthier perspective around food and exercise to others in my community online and in person.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

My biggest obstacle, which has become easier as I've aged, is accepting that some friends and family won't know how to show support for my business. So, I've learned how to tell them how I'd like them to support me. This is simply by sharing my story with others!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Just start now because if you wait for the perfect time to start your business, you'll be wasting time not helping the type of client/customer that you want to help. Once I truly learned how to solve my client's problem, I continued with personal development and continued to help solve this problem daily. It kept my passion alive, and it also kickstarted my business. Secondly, find a coach that has done what you want to do, that aligns with your values, and whom you would want to talk with regularly so that you can have someone in your corner for accountability. Lastly, talk with other entrepreneurs who are doing what you are doing - whether it's very similar or they are doing something that you can relate with. You can be inspired but also learn from their mistakes, saving you time and energy ultimately.
