Thrive Personally and Professionally - Sandy Bonney
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sandy Bonney, Founder of Sandy Bonney Coaching and Training, LLC., located in Westbrook, ME, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is Life and Business Coaching. My customers are those
looking for support as they undergo change and transformation in their
lives and their businesses.
Tell us about yourself
I went to work for a dental coaching company after selling my spa
because I had hired a coach to help me sell it. I enjoyed the experience
and the results so much that I decided to become a coach myself. I’ve
been coaching now for 22 years, and my work continues to motivate me
each day. It matches my energy, body, soul, and skillset. As a coach, I
get to partner with business owners who are taking the next steps
personally or maybe professionally. I know from my own experience that
can be a slippery slope. When we partner together, they are never
alone, and it humbles me to be able to help them navigate to their own
successes.
I am especially fulfilled when I partner with business owners. When I was
building my own businesses, I had chosen to bring on partners. It was
not a pleasant experience and cost me money, impacted my energy and
my team. I have used what I learned back then to ensure that those I
work with have the luxury of a partner who is walking with them every
day but is only asking of them a small monthly investment. In return, I
show up daily whether on the phone, or by text or email, just as a
business partner should, keeping them open to curiosity and
implementation.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Along the way to becoming a coach, I took three businesses from no
profit to profit in one year and then sold them the next year for way
above what I acquired them for. This experience has given me a palette
of skills for my future, which I can pass on to my clients. In addition, it
has helped me clarify my own path and allowed me to fill my life with
work and people I enjoy.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
What I always focus on with my clients—and what I needed to learn for
myself—is they need to believe in themselves. Business owners in
particular need to believe that they can play big, that they are worthy of
growth and financial success.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Have a future mindset:
- Hire a coach or find a mentor who is willing to hold you
accountable, who believes in you, and who is accessible to you
at any time. - Create a profit and loss statement as if your business was
already a year old. - Have specific plans for your organization for one year, two years,
and three years into the future.
