What's your business, and who are your customers?

I switched to the GF life eight years ago, and after seeing so many health improvements, I've never looked back. However, I consistently came across terrible GF options. As an avid baker and lover of all things food, I sought to rectify that. In August 2020, I opened Sandi Sue's Gluten-Free Bakery out of my home kitchen. In September 2021, I opened my first brick-and-mortar location. Since we are 100% GF, Sandi Sue's is proud to be celiac safe!

Tell us about yourself

After 25 years in retail, I left my corporate career. I followed my life-long dream of going to culinary school and opening a food-centered business. Since I love baking and am GF myself, a gluten-free bakery seemed a natural choice. Every day that I get to provide my community with delicious food is a good day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

So far- opening my first brick-and-mortar location. But there are so many more goals to achieve!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

In the current economic environment, finding good people to work with you is the hardest part. Right now, my husband and I run and operate the bakery. Soon we will have to hire someone, and I worry we won't be able to find the right person.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do something you love.
  2. Know your financials. You can't pay rent with good intentions.
  3. Build a network and grow the relationships in it.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Always do things with integrity- karma can be cruel.
