Sales Your Way - Salesy

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Meghan Lamle, Founder of Salesy, LLC., located in Colorado Springs, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own two businesses. I am an online business coach who teaches entrepreneurs how to start and grow their businesses online. My customers typically are people who desire to be entrepreneurs, whether they are brand new in the space, just starting their business, or have been in business for a while and are taking their business online. I own a second business that is a done-for-you lead generation and sales company. I work with mainly online coaches in the online coaching space, making sales for them in the DMs as if they had a sales team.

Tell us about yourself

I first heard about the online space in 2017 when I had a mutual friend who was nomadic doing web design. I thought it was really cool that she didn't have to physically go to work for a job. I wanted to travel so much more than I was at the time, so that is what got me interested. I didn't really join the online space, though, until 2019. I had only $200 in my bank account when I had someone come to me telling me they wanted to help me grow my coaching business, which really spearheaded me into the space. I was burnt out from corporate and not vibing with the 9-5 lifestyle.

What motivates me each day to do what I do is a simple answer that I think many Founders won't say - but simply the fact that I can work for myself. It's not always the easiest or most enjoyable job, and there are definitely stressful aspects of it. As a business owner, you can create a lasting impact and stimulate change that I might not get the chance to do if I wasn't a business owner.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating jobs is my biggest accomplishment as a business owner - this year, I got to give someone their dream job and am able to pay them above average. It's really rewarding to be able to see people come onto my team and see how much value add there is.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Everything comes back to you. There is an incredible amount of ownership, which can lead to stress. Recently we started hiring internally, which means I am responsible for people's paychecks. While things like this can be stressful, it is one of the most enjoyable things to have such an incredibly talented staff as I do.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start even if you're not 100% completely ready. So much of running a business is about learning and enjoying the process.
  2. Read and consume as much as you can in the beginning - not everything will stick, but it helps to have that expanded knowledge.
  3. Don't be afraid to fail. Failure teaches you what you don't want. We have been conditioned not to experience failure, but as a business owner, I have failed several times. Every time I came back stronger and more passionate about what I was doing.
