Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nikki Vergakes, CEO of Safely Rooted Coaching, located in Boston, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a life/business coach, hypnotherapist, and astrologer for online entrepreneurs.

Tell us about yourself

Since starting my business, I started my healing journey, accepted my authentic identity, navigated my queerness and neurodivergence, and started deconstructing capitalism + white supremacy + the patriarchy from my work and daily life. I previously worked in public relations, marketing, and social media management and started my business as a social media manager. This was after years of being a lifestyle blogger. My first healing journey era was fat liberation and recovery; my second and my spiritual awakening was uncovered when I started my business. I studied Clinical Hypnotherapy & the subconscious mind in 2021 and studied Human Design & Astrology right after. I ended up LOVING learning about the inter-workings of astrology and the subconscious mind. I love studying the solar system, learning the history of astrology, studying mundane transits past, present, and future, cracking open an ephemeris and seeing how our planetary placements make up our human design charts. I love helping you dive deep into your subconscious and rewire and heal.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishments are making over 6 figures, learning hypnotherapy and astrology and seeing their immense impact on my clients, and helping over 60 clients start or scale their businesses, embrace their authenticity and find their voice.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

You and your clients are the only people holding you accountable for showing up. In most cases, there is no one else who will do it for you if you don't do it yourself. You have to find the motivation for yourself, and that starts with seeing success as worthy and having confidence in yourself.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Build a like-minded community. I built a community with mostly any fellow entrepreneur I would find at first, which was fine, but when I found others who I shared identities and experiences with, my whole business and brand felt that much more validated. If you don't have coworkers, create your own community of colleagues. I co-work with fellow coaches and event host courses with them.
  2. Work towards trusting yourself. You make most of the calls, and you can't let perfectionism hold you back from taking action. Otherwise, you won't take any.
  3. Business is trial and error. Some ideas will work out, and some won't. You just keep going and trying new things! You have to build up the capacity for messing up and getting back up again.
