Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in graphic design but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rachelle Saevil, Founder of Saevil Row, located in Sydney, NSW, Australia.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Saevil Row is a bespoke branding agency with a modern, intentional and collaborative approach. We meet brands at key moments in their growth – and help design their future.

Tell us about yourself

My business journey started with a one-way ticket to Paris in 2014. I didn't intend to start a business, but I had the space to create something for myself out of this new adventure. I went to school for Advertising and Graphic Design, which is where I gained experience working in the industry in editorial and advertising. Slowly I started freelancing on top of my 9-5, which was the transferable skill I leveraged when I moved abroad.

Moving to Paris from Toronto was a big adjustment as I didn't know anyone or have a job, so it was truly an opportunity to start taking the freelance thing a little more seriously. Being able to leverage my network back home was how I first started to get clients, and it grew from there to what it is today.

In 2023 Saevil Row will be 8 years old, and truly, that's what motivates me each day. The fact that I've been able to create a business that not only allows me flexibility and freedom but my team as well. I'm also driven by creating a difference for our clients, helping them create a brand for their business that gives them live life on their terms.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is growing a team and being able to take a small step back from the day-to-day operations of it all. Providing the team with the autonomy to lead from their expertise and getting to do what they love under our brand is a great feeling.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Managing all the things at the same time and not knowing if you're 'doing it right.' It's a lot of trial and error, which alone can be overwhelming.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Your business is nobody's business. Stay in your lane and focus on what you're doing.
  2. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail. Having a plan is the only way you can stay on track to achieve the goals that you set out to accomplish.
  3. Lean on others who have done it before. There is so much valuable information online and potentially in your network - reach out to others you respect for advice to fast-track your growth.
