3d Creature Design & Wildlife - Rowena Frenzel's Art
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in 3D arts but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rowena Frenzel, 3D Artist of Rowena Frenzel's Art, located in Leipzig, Germany.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I have been a professional 3D artist since 2015. I'm specialized in designing 3d creatures and bringing them to life, telling stories, and helping other artists along my own journey to feel inspired and motivated to make their own art journey. I'm working in the whole entertainment industry, like videogames, miniatures, toys, film & VFX, cinematics, museums, and education. My customers are creative people who are doing art on their own or are interested in filling their homes with art.
Tell us about yourself
Im doing art since I could hold a pen and have loved it since these days. I'm a big nerd and gamer, and I love animals and nature so much that I want to bring new ideas and designs based on these things into our real world. Art was always my go-to activity to get my mind out of tough situations and to bring happy moments into my life when I struggled. It was a safe place for me, and I can tell that a lot of artists feel that way. I can't live without being creative, so getting a job in the art business was the best way to keep myself happy and fulfilled. I'm also a freelancer and can start and organize my day as I want to. I have my own flow, and I love being so free with my work, life, and ideas. That's what motivates me each and every day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
That I built my own business and lifestyle all on my own, and happily, I had some support from my loved ones financially in the past. I know not every person has such luck to focus fully on building their dream career, and that's why I'm more than grateful for this support. However, I went through many tough times during the whole journey. Being jobless, hearing my dreams are a waste of time & I'm not good enough, sleepless nights, many failures, periods of depression, and many more. Building something by yourself is hard mentally, but I'm glad I challenged myself through these tough times and that I'm still fighting for what I think is the best for me.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The constant failing, recreating, changing, growing, and getting attention for the things you love. As a business owner, you have to be known for something so that people buy things from you or come back with more work. So the hardest part as a business owner, and in my opinion as a human being as well, is to take care of your mental health. When you struggle mentally, everything falls apart. I know it very well from my own experience. Just hustling every day and focusing on numbers is not the right way to be successful in a career or as a person. You have to take care of yourself, take breaks, and reflect on your life, you as a person, and your business constantly. It's an ongoing journey and process. We are all a work in progress in our whole life span, we never reach perfection, and that's totally okay. That's what makes us human and alive. We need to experience all levels of life, and feeling not good is one part of it. You just have to take care of the amount. It's okay to feel not your best all the time. Enjoy the journey, not the goal.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Take care of your mental health!! THE most important advice.
- Focus only on the things you CAN control.
Simple example: Many people try to grow online to get more attention, and they focus on things like 'i want 1mio followers in 1 year'. The problem here is you can't control if people will follow you or like your stuff. Better is to focus on things you CAN control. In this example, you can control how many things you post in a week and what exactly you wanna post. Try to make THAT habit instead. Focus on things you CAN control and let go of everything you CAN'T. - It's not necessary to be online to have a successful business and career. But we live in a digital age, and it gets more and more digital the more time passes. It is how it is, no matter how much you are against it. Use that knowledge for your business. You don't need to be online for private stuff, but for business, it's a big benefit. Try to get used to being online. Show your stuff there, show the world what beautiful service you have to the world, what your passion is about, and let the world know that you and your ideas exist.
- But one important thing here to add: Be careful that social media and the whole internet are not ruling your world. Use it as a tool for YOUR things, don't let yourself be controlled BY it. That's why point 1 is so important.
