What's your business, and who are your customers?
I own a digital media company that consists of a handful of websites that generate hundreds of thousands of visits monthly. Of those, the core site that I'd consider my "home base" is called OneHourProfessor.com, where I help people create and grow their own online businesses.
Tell us about yourself
I started creating websites as a side hustle while I was working full-time as a digital marketing manager. While I created many failures, I eventually created a site that helped people find jobs, and this ended up funding all of my other projects, and things have just compounded since then. The thing that motivates me to continue to work long hours is simple, providing for my family. That, and my goal of reaching $50k+ each month in revenue.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner was the sale of one of my websites for $500,000. While the final price was adjusted due to some issues with an affiliate program partner, the fact that someone was willing to pay that much money for something I built from scratch was mind-blowing.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I'd say the hardest thing I deal with on a monthly basis is the increases and decreases in traffic/rankings. While I'd love to consistently rank well for all terms that I focus on with my site, it's just not possible due to all of the fierce competition.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be ready to have many failures before you find any success.
- Hard work can be God-given intelligence every day of the week.
- Focus on things that earn more revenue and outsource the rest or hire folks to help. Scaling is the key to any successful business.
