Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Frank Senese, Owner of Roni's Mac Bar, located in Waco, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Roni's Mac Bar! Our customers range from little girls in princess costumes to tattooed bikers! Anyone that likes being adventurous wants to try something new, or needs comfort food, would feel at home here.

Tell us about yourself

After working too many restaurant management jobs, and my wife's expertise in restaurants and HR, we thought, why the hell not do it ourselves and let our efforts bring in a comparable return? It was 10x easier than we thought to get started, and I think the idea that running a business is hard is completely taken out of context.

There is a difference between hard work and not enjoying what you do. Everyone has a passion, and even if it's a lot of work, they'll love doing it. We love this, and we love the ability to make our own decisions (In life and in business), and that's what keeps me excited about it every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our following on Tik Tik (About 200,000 followers as of this writing) and learning how to properly market a brand. Our marketing has now brought in enough income to let us do some great things with our employees and make the place an amazing place to work at.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Learning everything that is needed to start legally. The permits, contractors, business taxes, all the things you wouldn't learn unless you had to do it yourself. Then being able to tell yourself that you don't know the best all the time. Being able to accept the areas you are weak in and spending the time to become a master in those areas.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Learn marketing (this absolutely does not include Facebook and Instagram ads).
  2. Have the mindset that you will dominate your market and execute.
  3. Create systems and hire people to replace you ASAP. Otherwise, you'll never have enough income to hire someone! You need to spend time on your business, not on it.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Don't wait until you're older or better off to start your business. By then, you'll have a higher salary and more responsibilities at home that it would be too big of a risk to go down to a smaller income at the very beginning, and you'll be scared off from even trying.
