What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a keynote speaker and author who helps companies move their employees from half-hearted compliance to whole-hearted contribution through finding and engaging their non-negotiable values.

Tell us about yourself

I am a former rock star who toured with my band, Big Kettle Drum, for almost 20 years. We have played for hundreds of thousands of people from Austin to Australia. I transitioned from the festival stage to the conference stage about 8 years ago to help organizations find and develop rock star employees. I am motivated every day to fulfill my purpose of creatively impacting others by authentically providing hope.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have helped over 10,000 people discover their Black Sheep Values™, those deeply held personal core values that are non-negotiable.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Finding the right people to partner with is always a challenge. Doing things completely on your own is fine to start, isn't sustainable in the long run, and doesn't allow for scale.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The first thing you need to do is discover your 5 non-negotiable values. These become the mirror you hold every decision up to. Secondly, understand that you DO NOT control outcomes. The best you can do is make decisions with deliberate intention. Thirdly, accept the fact that you can not climb Mt. Everest in one shot. In fact, you have to plan for deliberate steps backward to make it to the peak.

Living your life on purpose requires you to choose your purpose. Your purpose is the activation of your non-negotiable values.
