Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Robyn Mons, Founder & Nutrition Coach of Robyn Mons Coaching, located in Riverton, UT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Mindset & Nutrition coach, and I am passionate about helping women who have been dieting for over 10 years lose and maintain a healthy weight without ever having to diet again. I run a group program, along with my business partner, Jennifer Winder, where we address the root cause of our behaviors with food that keeps us perpetually dieting. "Hungry for More" is our 6-month program (which includes lifetime access to coaching/materials), and we spend the first 3 months addressing where all of our habits/behaviors originate, which is the brain. This is where the magic happens and where women begin to make peace with food, and where they set up a strong foundation in their brains for healthy living. For the last 3 months, we have taught simple nutrition principles based on insulin management, and our clients love the freedom of never having to count a calorie, track points, or log food ever again. Every woman who has felt that managing her weight feels like an all-consuming part of her life is an ideal client for us. We absolutely love to see our clients shed the weight and the drama of diet culture that has kept them trapped for years and navigate life with food with freedom, peace, and ease.

Tell us about yourself

My background is as a personal trainer/transformation and nutrition coach. For 15 years, I had an intimate role in women's weight loss journey, and after observing the difficulty, the drama, and the perpetual cycle of losing and gaining (which I was secretly doing right alongside my clients), I stood back and thought, "surely it was not by design that managing weight was meant to be the hardest, most time-consuming part of our lives." Eating is the most basic form of self-care, and I couldn't accept that it was meant to be complicated; with all the training I had, I could not stick to what I was asking my clients to do, and I was in a perpetual state of losing and gaining the same 15 pounds. This led me to study the brain and why we behave the way we do, and I completed my life coaching certification knowing that this was the missing piece in my industry, and I was thrilled to come back and teach everyone what I had learned. I, of course, did this work on myself first, and 4 years ago, I lost 18 pounds and have easily maintained the weight. I am motivated every day to help women heal from the mess diet culture has made in our minds and to be at peace with food as they shed weight for the last time.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is to witness my clients lay down the drama and hurt from diet culture and to become women of peace, confidence, and strength. Watching a woman realize that her body is her most intimate partner in this life and seeing her heal that relationship brings me great joy. It is a sacred thing to witness, and I am so humbled by that.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I think one of the hardest things for all of with being business owners is to work through our own fears. Putting yourself out into the world and speaking your truth is surely going to bring up every insecurity you have inside. You have to face a lot of your false identities, insecurities, and self-judgment. If you're willing to stick with it and work through it, it becomes a beautiful, refining personal process.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

My top 3 tips for anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today are:

  1. Don't wait until all your "ducks are in a row." This will keep you spinning, and you won't take action. Just start, and then the next thing you need to do will be revealed to you, and then you take care of that, and so on.
  2. Pay attention to your beliefs about your ability to be successful because how you think is what will sponsor how you feel, what actions you take (or don't take), and ultimately the results you create. If you notice the beliefs are negative and aren't helpful, upgrade them. There is always a more inspiring thought available inside of you.
  3. Show up anyways. Are you afraid? Show up anyways. Not sure you'll do it, right? Show up anyways. Feel like an imposter? Show up anyways. None of us gets to do this without facing fears. Show up anyways, and soon you will feel capable and confident in what you are doing.
