What's your business, and who are your customers?

Tell us about yourself

We started ROAM because we, our founding team, wanted it ourselves. We are our target market, and we were sick of the status quo of deep-fried food, overpriced alcohol, and sugary coffee. We get up and slug through the challenges of fighting in the industrial complex that is the airport environment because we continually get positive feedback and request for more locations from our users, who are also fed up with the lack of healthy outlets in the airport terminal experience.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Somehow staying alive (business-wise, doors open) after six years of operation, including two of which were during a pandemic shutdown that obliterated gyms....and airports.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Finding the right balance of the grind and hustle with a sustainable, long-term work ethic and mindset. Being an entrepreneur has to come with long nights and "sprints," but it's also about the long game and having a "marathon" mentality.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Vice sells. Confusion sells. Complexity sells. Straightforwardness seems so simple and clear to everyone that there must be some reason someone hasn't done it already. Clearly, this isn't true, but you need to know your audience in order to sell them on today's mission and objective.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Be sure you have a great support system for the emotional rollercoaster. Lots of times, you will question yourself and reality. It's like that ending scene in Inception, where he needs to spin the top to determine if he's crazy or not. You need something like that top, a charm of your own, that you can objectively look at and remind yourself that what you're doing is not crazy but, in fact, well worth the effort, struggle, and challenge.
