Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jenny Shroyer, Founder of Riverside Therapies, located in Danville, PA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a mental health therapist and own my own practice in Central PA. I combine ecotherapy and EMDR to create a relaxed and supportive space to heal.
Tell us about yourself
I didn't always want to be a therapist. What I wanted was to create a place where someone feels safe to call things what they are and talk about the things that need to be talked about. After a series of life events, I realized that that's a therapist. Hearing a client say, "This feels good" or "I feel empowered" are the moments that motivate me to keep creating that space.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Owning my own practice is something I never thought of as an option, so the fact that I do, I feel, is a big accomplishment.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
It's lonely! There's no one to run cases by or say good morning too. Maybe that's why I bring my dog and chickens to work!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do it, scared. There isn't going to be a right moment.
- You don't have to do it all. You just have to do your one thing really well.
- It's ok to say no. If it's not right for you, it's not right for your business.
