Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in graphic design but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Riki Silzer, Founder of Rise Frequency Intuitive Graphic Design, located in Moose Jaw, SK, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is Rise Frequency Intuitive Graphic Design, and I serve many different types of entrepreneurs; my primary client base is spiritual and heart-led, conscious businesses.
Tell us about yourself
Arts and culture feed my soul entirely. I have been 'creating' since a very early age in several mediums, oil, acrylic, silk painting, pottery, and silversmithing, and I have sold several of my paintings. Graphic design has been part of my life since 1989. I began with the traditional methods (pre-computer) with manual paste-up and art creation. I have worked in many capacities in the field – including editorial and advertising layout in national newspapers and international magazines, plus a design & print agency. In addition, I have won logo design competitions and was recognized for visual identity design and published in a trade publication. As I continually refine myself, my passion and gifts expand. As a heart-centered entrepreneur, my mission is to help you connect with the spirit of your business. I love the vibrant diversity of my clients, and guiding them in everything visual to help their business brings me complete joy daily.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My most significant personal accomplishments in my 30+ year career are recognition, winning a few logo competitions, and being published in a trade publication. On the other side are the accomplishments of my clients. Nothing makes me happier than seeing them blossom and become more potent, present, and secure in their genius.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One challenge I face as a business owner is bookkeeping and accounting. Unfortunately, this is not my forté. After trying to do all the business things myself, I now understand that hiring the right specialist in the field you need help in is the best solution.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The top 3 tips for anyone starting, growing, and expanding a business are knowing and understanding yourself, your strengths and limitations, hiring the right people or company to support you, and, most importantly, being creative and having fun!
