Vitamins Absorbed Better - Rho Nutrition
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health supplements but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ryan Bishop, Co-Founder and CEO of Rho Nutrition, located in Miami, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Rho Nutrition is a health supplement company that uses Liposomal delivery technology to increase the absorption of vitamins and nutrients by up to 1000%, solving the problem of poorly absorbed vitamins. Our mission is to help people optimize their health through truly bioavailable supplements that reduce inflammation and improve cellular health. Our customer is someone who values quality and is looking to make an investment in their health and longevity.
Tell us about yourself
After spending over 5 years as an executive in the nutraceutical manufacturing industry working with top Ph.D. Chemists, I identified a major problem with the vitamin industry - despite 86% of Americans taking vitamins daily, they only absorb 20-30% of the nutrients, potentially rendering the 150-billion-dollar industry largely ineffective. I wanted to find a solution to this problem, so I turned to a clinical absorption technology called "Liposomal Delivery," which we had previously worked with, and saw remarkable results. In some cases seeing, absorption rates increased by up to 1000%. This technology had been used in the pharmaceutical industry for years to improve absorption rates of medications, and I wondered whether it could work for vitamins as well, and Rho Nutrition was born. As the co-founder and CEO, my main roles are driving revenue growth problem solving as we grow and face new challenges.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I'd say just taking an idea that my co-founder and I had while working in the manufacturing side of the supplement industry and making the leap to birth that idea into a real company while helping people truly improve their health through vitamins that actually work.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
As the owner of a startup, the hardest thing is having to wear the hats of basically every role in the company and learn on the fly... it's a bit like drinking out of a fire hose. You have to have the ability and desire to learn new skills fast and become competent enough to do them yourself or at least have enough wherewithal to teach and delegate the role to someone else.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure you choose an industry/idea you have deep knowledge of and have a passion for.
- Find a good co-founder that has a different set of skills from yours that you trust and want to spend a lot of time with... you will spend more time with them than anyone else in your life, so choose wisely.
- Be prepared and willing to take on some of the hardest challenges you have ever faced in your life and have the tenacity and the will to keep going no matter what.
