What's your business, and who are your customers?
I run an online training program for nonprofit executives to learn how to fundraise from major gift donors.
Tell us about yourself
I created my program because I was once a young Executive Director who was thrown into my role with no training or support. In order for us to bring in resources for our missions, we have to train people to do their jobs and not just be "accidental fundraisers."
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I've built a brand that is accessible and fun through my podcast, book, and online community. To hear that people have gotten a lot of value and seen great results from my work is incredibly rewarding.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Being a solopreneur means that you're constantly switching hats and learning how to do things that you've never done before. Leaning into discomfort is the job.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure that the thing you sell is actually solving a problem.
- Don't get distracted by shiny new ideas.
- Focus relentlessly on your unique zone of genius and delegate, automate or eliminate the rest.
