Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Katie Newman, Coach & Founder of Rewilders Ltd., located in Winchester, Hampshire, United Kingdom.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is called Rewilders, and I help people to bring their best to work that changes the world. I specialise in supporting founders who are using their businesses to do good. I help them to get to know themselves and learn to appreciate how unique and gifted they truly are, to develop into inspirational, authentic leaders, and to build businesses that deliver on the change they want to see in the world.

Tell us about yourself

I'm Katie; I live in Winchester with my husband, Tim, and our daughter Lilian. I love being outside, growing vegetables, eating cheese, and making ceramics. I'm a professionally trained coach and NLP practitioner, and prior to running my own business, I worked in marketing and leadership for several years at the likes of Mars Chocolate and a growing British startup.

My motivation is to help create a world where every business is a force for good. Not just a company that measures success by how little damage they do, but that exists to make the world a better place. Businesses are essentially collections of people united behind a common goal- so if we can help businesses to aim for a goal that is bigger than just making a profit and to recognize that people are their best assets and deserve to be invested in, the world will start to change.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Having built up a portfolio of clients that I am proud to be working with and supporting. There is no one currently or previously on my books which I chose to work with solely for the money, despite their values and ethics not aligning with my own. I want every one of my clients to win because I know that if they do, the world will become a better place.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Learning that you don't need to be perfect. We feel so much pressure to be brilliant at everything and to never make mistakes. We need to unlearn this and instead focus on learning who we truly are and what stuff we're already brilliant at. Then building a business that capitalises on those strengths and finds ways to compensate for the rest.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Block out the noise. Ignore the people telling you to "do it as they did it" and instead figure out your own strategy, what works for you, and stick to it.
  2. You might feel like an imposter, that you don't know what you're doing and that any day now, everyone is going to figure that out, but guess what. Everyone else feels the same, and it's perfectly normal.
  3. Find your purpose. Beyond just making money, know what your business is really about and what difference you are trying to make in the world. And then shout about it. It's your best marketing and talent attraction tool, and it will keep you motivated and making the right decisions even on the tough days when it all goes wrong and you want to quit. Your love for the difference you are making is what will stop you from quitting ~ David Hieatt.
