Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mhairi Todd, Founder & Life Transformation Coach of Revolve Coaching, located in Edinburgh, Midlothian, United Kingdom.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Hey, I'm Mhairi - THE TRANSFORMATION COACH FOR WOMEN WHO WANT A LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS. I help women navigate and overcome the roadblocks in their lives. From unlocking potential and gaining confidence to improving relationships and combating anxiety, my coaching programs help break down barriers standing between you and your personal version of true fulfillment.
You may not know all of the answers yet, but together we dig deep to ask the questions and build a bespoke plan centered around you. I approach all my sessions how I do life with hard work, raw emotion, and a hefty dose of humour. (That part is non-negotiable!) The road to happiness exists; sometimes, you just need a little help navigating it. That's where I come in.
Tell us about yourself
I worked in senior roles with fancy job titles and salaries for many years, but I was never truly fulfilled. After completing a degree in Medical Biology, I knew my passion lived outside the lab. But what to do? Youthful ignorance firmly in hand, I gravitated to where I thought I 'should' be, led entirely by society's depiction of success. When I got there, I realised I'd been so busy becoming what I thought I should be that I'd completely lost touch with who I actually wanted to be. The radical push for change came in the form of personal disaster. I went from seemingly 'having it all (but inwardly restless and full of self-doubt) to… divorced'. It changed the game. That's where my journey to happiness truly began.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I absolutely adore my clients. Being part of people's transformation journey is such a privilege and very humbling. However, I'd say my biggest achievement is the balance and fulfillment I have, thanks to my business. I have two days off every week so that I can spend proper time with my babies, and on the days I work, I absolutely love what I'm doing. It's the dream, really!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
You learn things about yourself you don't necessarily want to know as a business owner. The hardest thing for me is that every time I level up (which is a good thing), it naturally comes with a hefty dose of imposter syndrome and self-doubt. Moving forward in your business means facing your fear of failure; it can be pretty vulnerable and raw at times.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start now and give it everything you've got, do not wait until you've got everything to give it. If you wait till the mythical time when all the stars align, and it's 'the right time, you'll be waiting forever. I started my coaching diploma whilst working as a Commercial Director and pregnant. I started my business during the pandemic after losing my Mum and with an 8-month-old. I gave what I had at the time, and it got me to where I am. You are enough now, so go for it.
- Get comfortable with your capability not matching your ambition right away. In your mind's eye, you may have a very clear vision of what you want to execute or what good looks like, but you may have a steep learning curve to go on before you can match that standard. That's okay! Practice makes progress.
- Have good, better, best business goals...and make sure some are not financial. Good = a solid result you'd accept. Better = you'd be pleasantly surprised. Best = you'd be shocked and elated. By having goals laid out in this way, you can celebrate the solid stuff you may overlook when driving for lofty achievements.
