Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Neha Bhatia, owner of Revive Chiropractic, located in San Diego, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Revive is a cozy, boutique-style family-friendly community office located in San Diego. It is a Chiropractic office where people can receive individual attention and amazing healing. I differ from other Chiropractors because I spend a lot of time with each of my patients. Getting to know them, not just their ailments, but their lifestyle, stressors, and health and wellness goals. I'm not just treating the pain.
I'm treating the whole person. In many Chiropractic offices, the doctor is there only for an adjustment, but I take the whole person approach to helping my patients. This means aligning their spine, but also nutrition, supplements, exercise, stretching, ergonomics, etc.
Tell us about yourself
After I graduated from Chiropractic school, I worked as an associate at a Chiropractic office in LA. Working as an associate was the best opportunity to learn about the business side of things while also perfecting my skills to become a better doctor. I always had a vision of how I wanted my Chiropractic office to be....and in order to create that vision, I knew I had to open up my own office.
I love my office, and I love all my patients. Every day, I get excited to look at my schedule to see who my patients are for the day. I like interacting with them, and I love that my office is a place of healing. People leave feeling better (mentally and physically), and it's fulfilling to see that my office provides that for them.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The Chiropractic profession is dominated by male Chiropractors. My biggest accomplishment is being a female Chiropractic business owner who has a thriving practice. My practice opened at the beginning of the pandemic. Which was a stressful time to open a new business. Getting the company on its feet and then becoming a practice that is recognized within the community is another accomplishment.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Doing the business side of things and being a doctor. I'm in full doctor mode with my patients, but then I have to handle the business side of things when I'm not seeing patients. This can be challenging because I'm wearing all the hats.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Use your resources- When I first opened my business, I utilized as many resources as possible. Like access to Facebook groups, my alumni group, other business owners in the community, my mentors, etc. I asked a lot of questions and learned a lot.
- Get to know your community. Create genuine relationships and connections with other businesses and members of your community.
- When it comes to marketing, you have to put yourself out there but do it in a way that is natural to you. I was told to join certain networking groups, put up booths at farmer's markets, etc. None of which flowed with my personality. I found other ways to connect with people and market my business that was genuine to who I am as a person and as a doctor.
