Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kathryn Walker, CEO of Revitalist, located in Knoxville, TN, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Revitalist Lifestyle and Wellness is a mental health and wellness company that leads with groundbreaking, evidenced-based service lines, including ketamine infusions, transcranial magnetic stimulation, vitamin infusions, and therapy.
Our clients are anyone looking to improve their mental health and wellness. Many of our clients are individuals that have struggled for long periods of time with symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, insomnia, and suicidality. The ages of clients we see have been as young as ten years old and as old as 90 years.
Tell us about yourself
I worked at a Level 1 Trauma Center, Johnson City Medical Center, from 2003 until 2011. I graduated with my nursing degree from East Tennessee State University in 2005. I worked as an RN with the critically ill until I began Anesthesia school at the University of North Carolina - Charlotte in 2011. After graduating and becoming a CRNA in 2014, I moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, where I worked at five Tennova hospitals covering all specialties. In 2017, my life passion started shifting, and my purpose started to unfold on the need to help those due to lack of accessibility to quality care. I created the company, Revitalist, and opened its doors in February 2018. From there, the need for our services quickly grew. We have since opened 9 locations across six states.
I get out of bed every day because I know someone needs the mission of this company. It may be a loved one, a friend, or a complete stranger, but I know the need is great, and the demand is even greater. To be able to say that we helped save a life, helped to dissolve the mental health crisis, and helped to change the world by bringing leaders and influencers together to lead an empowered society of change, then my daily motivation was worth it.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am currently the CEO of one of the most disrupting mental health companies in the world that are listed on three public security exchanges. I think that is one of the accomplishments I would have never imagined with this business. To be able to have such a quality reach is overwhelming.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I would say one of the greatest difficulties is the respectable responsibility to others. Every decision I make is in the best interest of the mission of the company. The individuals intertwined in the mission, my employees, clients, contractors, volunteers, etc., they are all important to the growth of this company, and all are considered in every decision that is made for the company.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't expect to be perfect.
- Walk humbly, grow wisely, and learn the value of humility.
- Keep pushing forward.
