Relax, Unwind, Reset! - Retreat at Crystal Creek
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Laura Dunworth, Owner of Retreat at Crystal Creek, located in Austin, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are The Retreat at Crystal Creek, a locally owned, intimate retreat venue in Austin, Texas! We are located on a beautiful, secluded property, minutes from downtown Austin. We host family gatherings, small weddings, corporate events, retreats, and parties. The property boasts two large homes, two cabins, a spring-fed fishing pond, two heated pools, two hot tubs, and plenty of outdoor spaces to relax or entertain. Our overnight accommodations sleep up to 25 people.
Tell us about yourself
I believe we are all on a journey of growth, healing, and awakening to our true nature and our divine gifts. The realization of this journey began for me about twenty-five years ago, with the sudden death of my younger brother. I began to notice how my grief was affecting me physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I realized I was on a journey of healing and growth, which led me to study the healing arts of yoga, meditation, Reiki, and sound healing.
My dream has been to create a beautiful space where groups can come to relax, rejuvenate, have fun, celebrate and heal. The manifestation of a beautiful, five-acre retreat in Austin has come to fruition! I enjoy interacting with the guests, teaching yoga, coordinating catering and meetings, and setting up relaxing spa services for guests to relax and unwind.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment has been creating a thriving business during a pandemic! A great deal of our success has come via Air Bnb and VRBO. People are looking for unique experiences and places to connect and be together. Our business plan has been evolving by accident, although I truly don’t believe in accidents! The pandemic has brought us a booming small wedding business. Small businesses have been operating online for the past two years, and now they are ready to team build in person. We are hosting corporate groups and retreats. Healers and teachers have been coming out of the woodwork with interest in holding their events here! It is really an exciting time!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I think one of the hardest things about being a business owner is trusting the process. We didn't feel "quite ready" when we first opened our doors, but I don't think we would have ever felt totally ready! You need to jump in and just go for it! We have been growing, evolving, adding amenities, and seeing what works and what doesn't work. It's all about being flexible and willing to learn and grow.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Envision your dream as a reality today. Manifestation happens when you dream it into existence. Listen to your inner voice for guidance, and finally, take action! Don't wait for it to happen; take steps to make it happen!
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
