Your Needs, Your Goals - Restore & Reform
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarah Tyndall, Owner of Restore & Reform, located in Holly Springs, NC, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Restore & Reform is a privately owned Physical Therapy practice providing 1:1 individualized care for local athletes, dancers, performing artists, and the local community. Pilates-based treatment approaches are used to help maximize muscle balance, mobility, stability, and control throughout training, with a strong focus on educating and empowering patients to actively reduce pain and get back to life.
Tell us about yourself
Restore & Reform was built out of the frustrations from working in both civilian and military healthcare. The constant constraints on dictated scheduling, reimbursement decline, increased co-pays, and pressure to increase numbers over quality. I believe that healthcare should be patient first and business second. While many business people will disagree, taking care of others and helping them achieve their goals is what got me started in Physical Therapy in the first place. I was a dancer with limited access to providers who understood what I wanted to do and what my body needed to be able to do after an injury. I knew there had to be more... there had to be a better option.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Getting started. It's scary. Very scary. Especially in an economy struggling with inflation. This is something I have considered for over a decade, watching the healthcare system continue to fail people. I have tried to be a light within that system for as many as I can, but at the same time, I'm proud of myself for taking a Leap of Faith toward something I know God laid on my heart for a reason.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Juggling everything. Schedules, marketing, events, finances, work-life balance. This first year has been a learning and growing process for me, and I couldn't have made it this far without the support of my family and friends and without faith in God's plan for me.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Talk to as many other small business owners as you can. Take advice from everyone, but weigh it carefully. What worked for some might not work for you, and vice versa. Also, don't put down anyone else who is also trying, even when they are in competition. We live in a small world full of connected people. You never know when that person might become a resource you need.
- Have Faith and be Persistent. Take time to be sure you are passionate about what you are jumping into. Starting a business on a whim will not get you far. Without passion and something internally motivating you, it will be easy to get discouraged.
- Research every step. Whether online, via personal connections, or any other avenue you can find. Try to start with as little overhead as possible. Your overhead will grow as your business grows. If you start with a high output, it will take longer to start to break even and pull ahead. Be willing to take chances and look for those willing to take a chance on you.
