Represented in every body - All Day Fit
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Cassie Day, owner of All Day Fit, located in Toronto, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
All Day Fit helps every BODY make fitness a consistent part of their life through inclusive and meaningful fitness programs. We offer a wide range of fitness programs from personal training, to online group classes, to athletic conditioning, with the understanding that fitness is personal - and as a result, we’re here to meet you where you’re at! The ADF client is represented in every body.
We strive to be a reflection of real people, not media. Our ideal client is diverse in race, age, gender identity, sexuality, ability, size, and fitness-level. These clients value health, balance, support, authenticity, and meaningful relationships.
Tell us about yourself
When I started strength training 11 years ago, I noticed something discouraging … More often than not, the gym both in real life and in media was consumed by a single body-type (typically young white able-bodied males with a low body-fat percentage). This motivated me to start All Day Fit.
I not only wanted to positively impact people to live more fulfilling and healthy lives, but most importantly, to be a catalyst for change in the fitness industry. Where, the term fitness is no longer associated with a single body-type, but rather, a reflection of people’s ability to find strength within themselves and feel confident in the body they have.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being able to feel the impact this company has had on a client’s life. Fitness is truly a transformative experience both physically and mentally. I’ve seen clients rehabilitate injuries and pains, work through mental slumps, and repair their relationship with their body. Your physical health has a domino effect in all areas of your life, and that’s the most fulfilling part for me.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
As a business owner, my biggest challenge is finding a team that shares the same values and vision of my company. A shared belief is important for 2 reasons: it (1) allows the team member to excel in their role, creating greater growth opportunities for both the employee and company; and (2) it builds a strong company culture and bonding experience - making this job so much more fulfilling!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
1. Treat your business like a million-dollar business from the get-go (i.e. get a lawyer, bookkeeper, accountant, etc) - this will prevent major unforseen costs in the future!
2. learn how to efficiently manage your time (i.e. plan out our day in a calendar, say no to unnecessary tasks, etc.) - your time as a business owner is extremely valuable! Make sure to spend it wisely! This also includes prioritizing relationships, sleep, meals, exercise, etc. to avoid burnout.
3. Outsource jobs that you’re not good at or don’t enjoy. The extra cost is worth the time you would spend procrastinating this task or the energy you’re taking away from the jobs you excel at.
