Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Heather Binns, CEO of Renov8 Fitness, LLC., located in North Hollywood, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
As a Health & Fitness Strategist, I’m on a mission to inspire one million people to shatter self-imposed glass ceilings to find their athlete within. I accomplish this by helping those struggling to lose weight to shed fat successfully & improve strength without giving up the things they love through a custom fitness, nutrition & lifestyle program based on their unique biology.
As the CEO of Renov8 Fitness, LLC, I use my “form-perfectionist” qualities to coach a myriad of clients worldwide via my live virtual, remote, and in-person coaching programs. I also focus on business development training and strategic coaching for emerging health & fitness entrepreneurs and established business owners because I truly endorse the adage of making a living doing what you love day in and day out. Not to mention helping these entrepreneurs not make the same mistakes I did while growing my business.
Tell us about yourself
After spending more than a decade working in the corporate world, I began my health & fitness career in 2006. Through a combination of persistence and trial & error, I successfully converted my once part-time side hustle into a full-time six-figure business. With a plan, a strong belief in my talents, and a deep desire to be my own boss, I left my high-paying corporate job to realize my dream of helping others improve their lifestyle through health & fitness – something truly dear to my heart. Now, as a nationally acclaimed fitness expert, best-selling author, wellness educator, personal trainer, endurance coach, nutrition coach, and competitive athlete, I help others age youthfully while feeling healthy and irresistible.
An additional motivation for me is being an athlete and setting an example for my clients and my grandchildren. I’ve performed as a top athlete in a variety of disciplines, with podium finishes in triathlon, trail running, road running, and obstacle course races. Whether the task is challenging and arduous or light and fun, I always try to give my best effort. When not helping clients and entrepreneurs optimize their lives, I enjoy spending time with my husband, two children, four grandchildren, and two fur babies in Southern California. I bring passion to everything I do and inspire others to become their absolute best self.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I was voted one of the top five personal trainers in Los Angeles four years in a row and am one of America’s PremierExperts®, a designation given in recognition of my personal accomplishments and expert knowledge in fitness. Renov8 Fitness, my private fitness coaching center, was also voted one of the top gyms in Los Angeles.
As an avid speaker and presenter, I’ve appeared on the KTLA morning news, CBS Channel 8 news, Every Way Woman Talk Show, OCR Underground and featured in Spartan Life Magazine, VoyageLA Magazine, Los Angeles Sports & Fitness Magazine, Authority Magazine, SD Voyager Magazine, My Fox LA’s HOTLIST, Thrive Global, OCR Nation, Money For Lunch Radio Talk Show, Financial Safari Radio Talk Show, and in Michelob Ultra’s 2017 Superbowl commercial.
Additionally, I’m a best-selling author and Quilly Award Winner from The National Academy of Best-Selling Authors for my book Results Fitness. The book offers “a wealth of amazing, effective, and clinically-proven advice” and was #1 on Amazon.com under Exercise & Fitness.
To speak of my business acumen, I’ve garnered consultations, lectures, and training with many formidable companies, including Disney, Nike, Kaiser Permanente, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, American Heart Association, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Maxim Health Systems, Disability Rights California and many more. I also developed my own show in 2020 called Happy, Healthy and Fit Revolution.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things to manage while being a business owner is continually finding the balance between your work life and personal life, especially when you truly love what you do. And this balance is always evolving as life continually changes, so what feels right for one timeframe may not for another timeframe.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
I truly enjoy helping emerging entrepreneurs shatter their self-imposed glass ceilings. In order to do this, one must become okay with getting out of their comfort zone, be willing to take calculated risks and understand that you need more than just passion to succeed.
