Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Renita D. Davis, Owner of International Community Hope Project, located in Round Lake Beach, IL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is a coaching and resource service. I move people feeling uncertain and stagnant in their life to recovery and results.
Tell us about yourself
I am a servant leader with 20 years of service to families and the community. I am the founder and owner of International Community Hope Project, LLC, a Published Author, an Education Consultant, a Speaker, and a Coach. I have had challenges and obstacles to overcome, from a little girl to an adult, not feeling I was ever good enough, being the outcast, and not fitting in. Through all of this, my faith was something that kept me focused. With my faith in God and tenacity to follow my desires and dreams, I continue to reach for the stars and beyond, capturing my God-given destiny and purpose: serving.
Growing up, I watched my mother model giving to those who had little for themselves. I knew that "when I grow up," I wanted to continue that legacy. I think that is one of the reasons I became a social worker. As my mom got older, I wanted to preserve her legacy. I remember telling her that one day I wanted to start a business and have her name on it. In June 2017, the International Community Hope Project was established. Hope is my mother's maiden name. My mom passed away in January 2021.
My love for community and advocating has evolved into the service that I do. Knowing that I can help someone each day by "meeting them where they are and moving them forward" is my passion. What gets me up in the morning is, establishing a legacy for my children and partnering with people experiencing gaps in their lives, providing clarity and guidance to promote personal and professional successes, and moving them from uncertainty and stagnation to recovery and results.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment was establishing my business while my mom was living.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about being a business owner is dealing with the "unknowns." there are so many components that you need to know as a business owner. When they show up, it can take you down a road that slows your process but knowing how to navigate the unknown is knowledge.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Stay focused.
- Partner with those who agree with your vision.
- Don't stop moving forward.
