Tell us about yourself

Me and David Donaldson founded Ralph's Chocolate Delights in February 2020. The company was created by our family with the focus of ensuring the quality of our chocolate products, providing it at an affordable price, and ensuring happy, fun memories to people and families of the community. I have always loved chocolate and hot chocolate, along with a passion for business. I have been in business my whole life since my Dad, Derrick "Ralph" Lewinson, owned his own business. I have always had a passion for business and know what it takes to own and run one. Combined with my love of chocolate and hot chocolate, I also have a bachelor's in Finance and Management. Whenever I would have meetings over coffee, I would always order hot chocolate since I didn't drink coffee and have drunk hot chocolate since I was young almost every morning. In 2020 Ralph, my beloved Dad passed away, and I decided to name the business after him "Ralph's Chocolate Delights" as he was such an inspiration in my life. I have learned a lot from her past memories, professional experiences, my experiences with hot chocolate, and my love of chocolate.

David Donaldson has a bachelor's in Finance and is from an Italian background. He has always loved cooking. As a young boy, he would play with pots when all the other children were playing with toys. David loves creating delicious, innovative meals and mouthwatering chocolate experiences. He has experienced the delights of how food and chocolate can bring families together and create memories as he has done with his family. Every holiday no matter where his family is, they all come together to build memories over food and desserts. We believe our experiences make us not only unique but also very qualified for providing quality products, experiences, and memories for our customers. We understand that memories are very important, and creating them with family and friends is even more important.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment as a business owner is bringing happiness and fun memories to our customers.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is ensuring you have a good work/life balance. Sometimes we can get lost in our work, so knowing when to enjoy life, take a break, and make our own memories.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get proper funding. There are a lot of ways to get funding, such as grants, investors, and advertising credits to start a business. Therefore the lack of funds should not prevent someone from following their dreams.
  2. When starting out, you have more time than money so invest the time in so you don't have to spend so much money. Do Social Media posts, start blogs, apply to grants, etc., for awareness and funding.
  3. Remember there is a lot of talent in your family and friends you can utilize, don't be afraid to ask for help.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Hot chocolate bombs or hot cocoa bombs are cute little balls of chocolate that you put into a mug. When you pour hot milk into the mug, the chocolate melts and magically releases the marshmallows and cocoa hiding inside. We recommend using 8-12 ounces of liquid. We make our own gourmet large Hot Chocolate Bombs. Each ball is about 2.5 inches in diameter. It's super cute and fun, and you can taste so many delicious flavor variations! You can drink it hot or make a delicious frozen drink!
