Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lindsey Van Laar, Founder of Renewed Resilience, located in Leduc, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Renewed Resilience is a mental health and wellness community whose vision is to normalize mental health & wellness through the power of story & relatability while striving to bridge the gaps in the mental health system. We are committed to providing a safe, non-judgmental environment that offers support, guidance & solutions for the wellness of your mind, body & soul to all in the community.

Tell us about yourself

Renewed Resilience was created from my personal experience of going through postpartum depression, anxiety, PTSD, and a chronic illness, and when I reached out for help, In all circumstances, I was either judged, ignored, or had to travel to another community to get the help I needed. Each day it is my mission to be open and real about life and my journey so others can feel comfortable and feel like they are not alone in whatever they are trying to navigate through in life. It is important that we at Renewed Resilience create a foundation that is full of connection, community, and collaboration so we can fill in the gaps throughout the mental health system in our community and give people the support, guidance, and solutions they deserve.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is seeing how in only a year, our space has already allowed people to feel safe, heard, and comfortable as they walk their path of healing. We are striving to run the business differently and outside of the box & seeing the positive response we have had is heartwarming and also a big accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner would have to be the unknowns of will this business or service be well received, are doing right in the community, etc., but even though it may be the hardest, there is always growth and learning that comes from all of the unknowns.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you are in love with what you are doing and that your desire is high.
  2. Make building relationships with clients, staff, or contractors a priority. Get to know them.
  3. Be open to all possibilities and be flexible in the way you make your dream come true because if you are closed-minded, you never know what amazing opportunities you are passing on that could take your business to bigger heights than what you have already dreamed of.
  4. Bonus: Ensure that your own self-care, family time, etc. It is a priority because if you run from an empty cup, your road to success in a joyful life and career will be harder or non-existent.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

It is a huge value of ours to make sure that all individuals feel seen, heard & supported to the best of our ability. Although we are not a crisis center, we will help direct individuals to the proper resources and organizations so they can receive the proper crisis support.
