A reselling platform for the Influencers' closet - Relovely
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alexis Spoden, Founder of Relovely, located in New Jersey, United States.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Relovely is a platform for influencers and creators to resell pieces from their closets. Influencers' closets are filled with beautiful, barely worn pieces looking for a new home. Relovely makes reselling their clothes simple!
Tell us about yourself
I have always been a fan of thrifting and second-hand shopping and knew I wanted to start something in this industry. When I started Relovely, the influencer industry was booming and continues to grow to this day. There is constant pressure to keep up with the latest trends and never wear the same thing twice, especially in the fashion influencer space.
This gives influencers the chance to clean out their closet and followers to LITERALLY shop their favorite influencers' closets! Many pieces are just worn once for a photo, ready to be passed on and re-loved. Through this process, I have learned so much about the environmental impact of the fashion industry, especially fast fashion. Encouraging people to shop preloved motivates me to do what I do each day. It is so important to keep our clothes out of landfills.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment was starting. So many people are afraid of putting themselves out there, and it is definitely scary! But I constantly remind myself to keep going. Entrepreneurship is not easy, and it is a constant uphill battle, but it is filled with so many learning opportunities. I am so proud of myself for doing it, even if it doesn't go as planned. If I had never started, I would have always wondered "what if," which is even scarier.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Constant rejection and let-down. You put your heart and soul into your business, so it is hard not to take things personally when something doesn't go as well as you planned. But you just have to take everything as a learning, and keep going.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Save/raise money, hire people smarter than you, and don't be afraid to take risks.
