Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in training and development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joseph Anderson, COO of ReliabilityX, located in Coplay, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At ReliabilityX, we seek to provide a stress-free quality of life for all levels of an organization through our ability to help lower costs, achieve financial metrics that improve overall organizational health and give employees great work-life balance. We ensure that systems and processes are developed through training, coaching, and implementation services covering areas such as Asset Management, Reliability, Operations, and Maintenance. Our customer base is generally manufacturing organizations, public utilities, and universities, but we are willing to help every business we can with our expertise.

Tell us about yourself

I spent 25 years honing my skills with the goal of eventually being in business for myself, so I had the freedom to help as many organizations as I could. I have a passion for helping others and seeing their growth as they journey through life. Seeing the fruits of my labor is the biggest motivating factor for me. Seeing smiles on people's faces, them enjoying coming to work, and all-around results being achieved drives me to wake up every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would have to say my biggest accomplishment is always helping others achieve their potential. I honestly believe that everyone can be great, and seeing others excel in life gives me a feeling like no other. This is why I do what I do. The sense of joy that it brings me to see others succeed and knowing I had a small part in helping makes me happier than any success I have had for myself.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner, at least for me, is the process of scaling up. We have seen substantial growth over the last few years. Taking on more work while trying to balance hiring quality people with not exhausting cash flow can be tough at times. It is a game of peaks and valleys, so managing the ebb and flow can, at times, be stressful.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

A few tips I can give if you are looking to start a business is to first have a plan. Set goals, objectives, and tasks and stick to the plan. Next, figure out who your market is and develop your networking by finding local or national organizations that you can get involved in. In business, sales are king; without clients, you have no business. Lastly, I would say to do it now. There is never a perfect time to start. We are all scared at first. If you work hard and stick to the plan, it will pay off in the end.
