What's your background and motivation to grow as a solopreneur?
The story of KnowledgeForce is simple and based on the belief that every person has the right to the pursuit of career happiness. With that belief in mind, we set out to help organizations develop their people to achieve career happiness, as well as organizational success. We know that happens as a result of a continuous commitment to invest in people.
If you were a fly on our wall you’d hear us say: “Develop your people so that the competition tries to steal them, but treat them so well they’ll be loyal for life!” We have witnessed the power of strategic and well-executed professional development, and know it is truly the difference between ordinary and extraordinary.
We are genuinely guided by our values and check all our decisions against them. We believe it's always best to serve, not sell; to be role models for what we believe and know works; the most important part of knowledge is to be empowered to use it, and meaningful connections to people as well as the purpose of the work is what makes all the difference.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
KnowledgeForce celebrates its 10th Anniversary this year. We're proud of our accomplishment--and of the good, we've done to help over 50,000 people experience professional development that made a difference for them, their company, and the people they serve.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a solopreneur?
Separating your ego from the roller coast ride that is business ownership has been the hardest part over 10 years. Acknowledging and accepting there will be ups, downs. Uncertainty is just part of the ride and the faster someone can get comfortable with that the more enjoyable the ride becomes.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?
- Get your financial ducks in a row--FIRST.
- Have a roadmap and then be prepared to deviate from the planned journey--all the best things happen on the "road less traveled by."
- Track your time and how it's spent. It helps you make key decisions along the way--and it's the most valuable thing you bring to the business.
If there was one thing you could do repeatedly to help grow your business, what would it be?
Create a reoccurring revenue stream alongside the custom and one-off work that is so often at the core of learning and development.
