Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dena Jackson, Founder of Reiki with Dena, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Reiki practitioner who offers healing sessions and intuitive guidance to clients. My clients are anyone who is in need of healing. Quite often, they tend to be women and women-identifying, but Reiki is not limited to anyone.
Tell us about yourself
In addition to being a Reiki Master, I am a wellness speaker who teaches yoga and mindfulness. I guess you could say I love all things wellness oriented. As I progressed on my path as a mindfulness practitioner, Reiki was the natural next step for me. I love working with people and seeing what this amazing form of healing can do for people. I leave each session feeling incredibly grateful that I get to do this work, and the feelings that clients share after their treatments are truly what gets me up in the morning.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Publicly I would say that my biggest accomplishment in this field was being given a chance to give a TEDx talk on how these wellness practices changed my life. Privately as a business owner, my biggest accomplishment is achieved whenever I receive positive feedback from clients noting how much the session has helped them. That is why I do this.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is that no one is going to do your job for you. You have to put yourself out there and share your gifts with the world, which is both scary and amazing.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do something you love. It can take time to build your business, but if you love what you do, it will feel less like work.
- Share your work with your networks (online and in person). Let the world know what you offer so the right people can find you.
- Don't be afraid to say no if something doesn't feel right. Use your judgment and intuition to help you navigate. If a situation feels off, it most likely is.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
